MALIBU is a beach city in the Santa Monica Mountains region of west Los Angeles County. Malibu is bounded by Topanga to the east, the Santa Monica Mountains (Agoura Hills, Calabasas, and Woodland Hills) to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the south, and Ventura County to the west.
The city is approximately 19.89 square miles in size and has a population of just over 12,600. Malibu consists of a 21-mile strip of prime Pacific coastline and is famous for its warm, sandy beaches, and for being the home of many Hollywood movie stars and others associated with the entertainment industry.
Most residents live within a few hundred yards of Pacific Coast Highway and the beach, while others live up to a mile away from the beach up narrow canyons. Numerous residents of the unincorporated canyon areas also identify Malibu as their hometown.
Malibu has a number of parks and some of its beaches include Carbon, Surfrider, Zuma, Malibu, Topanga, Point Dume, County Line, and Dan Blocker Beach, among others.
The Malibu Country Mart and the Malibu Pier are also popular destinations for both locals and visitors.
